Brooklyn Wedding with Urban Elegance

You’d be hard pressed to find a love story sweeter than this. What started as neighbors in Brooklyn for six years ended in an eventual date, proposal and wedding set in the very same neighborhood where it all began. Think classic elegance meets urban charm, with Gabrielle Aronas’ beautiful florals, Stacie Ford’s flawless makeup and Katie Osgood working magic behind the lens. More right here.

From The Bride…For years Greg was just the boy who lived below me. We passed one another in the hallway of our Brooklyn brownstone hundreds of times and after 6 years decided we should be friends. We soon became inseparable and what started out as friendship quickly developed into so much more. We fell in love over Thursday night drinks, Sunday dinners and countless Yankee games and after 2 ½ years of dating Greg proposed to me at Brooklyn Bridge Park.

Greg and I quickly jumped right into wedding planning. We met, fell in love, and got engaged in Brooklyn – so it just felt right to get married in Brooklyn too. After going back and forth on the size of the wedding we ultimately decided on 80 of our closest friends and family. We hoped that number was small enough to feel intimate yet large enough to feel festive. We visited several venues but after seeing Brooklyn Winery we immediately knew it was perfect for us.

Planning a wedding can easily become very stressful. Fortunately we worked with wonderful vendors who alleviated much of that stress. Rachel and Jessica at Brooklyn Winery were a godsend. They were so patient and always happy to answer our many questions. Our florist (Gabrielle Aronas) was an absolute joy to work with and her flowers and tablescapes created a beautiful and welcoming atmosphere. My makeup (Stacie Ford) and hair (Ramona Azcona) far exceeded my expectations. I have never felt more beautiful and I will always be grateful to them for their warmth and professionalism. And finally, hiring Katie Osgood as our photographer was quite possibly the best wedding decision we made. She is an incredible talent who captured our special day so beautifully. And as an added bonus she is super fun too! Many, many thanks to all of the wonderful people we were lucky enough to work with.

After 6 months of exhaustive planning, our wedding day finally arrived on April 18th, 2014. It was everything we had hoped for – a day filled with immense love and happiness. We are so thankful for the limitless support and devotion of our families. We loved celebrating with them and will cherish our many memories for a lifetime.

A Sunny Celebration at the Santa Barbara Historical Museum

What starts off with crazy good sparkling heels, only gets better as you scroll through this day captured by Anna Costa. And the Santa Barbara Historical Museum? It’s the leader of the beautiful outdoor venue pack; especially when outfitted with blooms by Tenley Erin Young Floral and details coordinated by Jessica Kuipers. See the full affair right here.

From The Bride…Ian and I met at a bar in Santa Barbara in 2009. We had a great conversation, and then Ian was too shy to ask for my number. He figured that he could just find my contact info on my university’s website, which led to him emailing someone else in my department and asking her out. Luckily, she pointed him in the right direction, and we managed to meet for coffee! Three years later, in June of 2012, we got engaged while on vacation in the mountains of Colorado. At that point, we had been living in separate countries for a year (with me in California and him in the U.K.) and were thrilled to begin planning our wedding and making plans for a future together.

We set a date for August of 2013. Since I knew I’d be leaving Santa Barbara soon (we moved to Canada shortly after the wedding), I was eager to include things that define southern California for me: succulents; bright, gorgeous flowers; adobe; great food and local produce; and lots and lots of sunshine. More than anything, Ian and I wanted our wedding to be a good party—and it was! We included games and MadLibs on the cocktail tables, and my parents made a Baggo set from scratch that guests could play with throughout the evening. We had great food, funny toasts, and a wonderful band that kept us dancing like fools throughout the night. The reception ended with coffee and cookies homemade by Ian and me.

Our wedding was everything we could have hoped for, and we feel so lucky that so many of our family and friends were able to celebrate with us. Many thanks to our wedding coordinator, Jessica Kuipers, and our other vendors for making it all happen!

Garden Party Inspired Bridal Shoot

We’re certainly no strangers to a good garden party, but when all that elegance and whimsy is taken indoors, we’re bound to be smitten. Think sequin tablecloths and cross back chairs, overflowing blooms and clusters of candles. It’s all styled to perfection by Bows & Arrows and Stefanie Miles, and lucky for us Heather Hawkins snapped up every yummy bit. More right here.

From Heather Hawkins Photography… This shoot was a lovely collaboration between the team of Heather Hawkins, Stefanie Miles, Bows & Arrows and a few other amazing talents, and may just inspire you to throw a garden party of your own!

The gorgeous natural light and lightly colored interiors allowed us to bring the outdoors in, without compromising the natural and organic elements we desired for this visual story. The historic building held the celebration, and provided ample opportunities for wistful and charming portraits to capture the radiance of the bride. We always recommend thinking carefully about venue selection, as it is so important to creating the atmosphere for the celebration!

We wanted to create a lush, romantic and dreamy atmosphere for a elegant celebration, and did so using a colorful mix of loosely arranged florals in various tones of blush, peach, cream, salmon, and pink. The addition of antique brass candlesticks antique silver flatware added warmth and character, while the clean-lined blush plates kept the scene fresh and modern.

The bride wore gowns by Reem Acra, Monique Lhuillier, and Oscar de la Renta. Two bouquets were designed, one made of hellebores, olive leaf, patience garden rose, sweet pea and the other of sword fern, jasmine vine, poppies, peony, peach juliet garden rose, charity garden rose, miranda garden rose, ranunculus, sweet pea, anemone, hellebores, and scented geranium.
